When I was a little girl, I thought little elves lived inside computers and processed Google searches and made what I typed appear on the screen.
I also thought they lived inside mailboxes, grabbing letters as they dropped into the abyss and transporting them after “work hours.”
I thought adults never fought, and that every dad in the world went to the same place, called “Work,” every day.
What are some things you believed as a kid?
All of these things are “little lies,” not necessarily harmful to believe, but lies all the same, and I believed them, of course, through misinterpreting words and evidence around me.
It is when these lies– bigger and more harmful ones, often thrust in our faces every day– stick, that we believe lies to be true as we age that they are dangerous and impact our journies negatively.
A lie that stuck to me, for example, that I believed and that needed to be uprooted for me to walk in Truth, was that the food I ate every day needed to be planned, thought about, and organized. It became, in this way, an idol. The devil through the world had deceived me that this was the desirable way. Jesus redeemed me and showed me a much better way.
What are you holding on to as true that does not come from the Word of the Lord– the WORD, which is JESUS (John 1:1). Often, these are the things we are most fearful to acknowledge. We have been taught to cling to these things. Opening our heart to Jesus, asking Him that we might receive His way, The only way, regarding the lies that have only derived from the sin of the world, Satan, and trusting in His power to reveal.
I tell you, my friends, do not be afraid of those who kill the body and after that can do no more. But I will show you whom you should fear: Fear him who, after your body has been killed, has authority to throw you into hell. Yes, I tell you, fear him. Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten by God. Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows. LUKE 12:49-53
There is one lie most of us have been exposed to and taught, clearly not in Truth– fear murderers, fear death, fear violence and humans who want to kill and destroy my body.
Jesus clearly instructs that we never need live in fear of such people or situations, but rather that, wow, this makes sense: Jesus has ALL authority over my body; no matter what happens to it in this world, He is control. The only thing or person or entity He instructs that we should fear is Him. In fact, the fear of Him is the beginning of all knowledge (PROVERBS 3:7).
Lord, entangle lies that Satan through the world would have us believe or have us currently pursuing, and direct our hearts to Your Truth alone. I dedicate myself to You and pray that my will and my Spirit be aligned with Yours, Lord Jesus, that I might only serve You all my days. Amen.
