I had a really really great weekend, and also a really awesome Monday!
My birthday weekend was incredible. It was also one of my best friend’s birthday on Thursday, and I took her out shopping and she had a date with her new boyfriend and it was just awesome.
Friday I worked for seven hours and had some really complainy customers which just had me feeling a little low. I’m good with people, but a stressful day paired with grouchy moods isn’t the greatest. I was blessed to come home to incredible friends just chilling, talking, enjoying each other in my basement to celebrate my birthday. That’s when I really started thinking about the power we all have to determine a day’s outcome.
Saturday was my 18th birthday, and I had the best one ever. It started at midnight with my bestest friend Sammy running around to create a frame of Polaroids for me. I can never explain enough how amazing this human being is.
She had to leave at 6am for ringette, so I made pancakes for my friends Jake, Kodie, and Natalie, and we all chatted and it was awesome. And I danced around the kitchen to country music.
At 11am my best friend Kaitlyn surprised me with her boyfriend, a beautiful card, and a Starbucks gift card. I jumped right on her I was so excited to see her.
I had a long nap and did some yoga and answered some beautiful birthday messages, and then opened gifts from my family! They all know me way too well. I was given so many new adorable mugs, tea, and money for an iPhone, clothes, quest bars, way too much. Also beautiful homemade cards!
I took my time getting ready for my birthday dinner which I was so excited for. So many of my loved ones came and I was overwhelmed.
18 feels goooood! I had one of the best nights of my life in the midst of so many beautiful people.
+about 30 more incredible people. I feel like the luckiest person alive to share in life with all of them.
Sunday was my dad’s birthday which was beautiful as well. After work I went to my godmother’s 90th birthday party. She used to call me once a week, and we have always been very close. Recently she developed Alzheimers and for the first time on Sunday, she didn’t know who I was. Needless to say, I broke down. It was one of the most bizarre things I’ve ever experienced.
After such a whirlwind of a birthday weekend, though I love university, I was a little stressed this morning about heading back. I spent the morning being extremely productive at home, and the second my friend Cassia picked me up for school, I told myself, No matter how stressed you are, go into this day with a positive attitude.
That truly works wonders. I loved my time with Cassia, my wonderful friend Chelsea and her boyfriend Seth came to visit me before class, and I loved my English lecture although I needed a double espresso to get through it! After class, Bethany, Maddie, Mary and I went to the seminary to brainstorm as we’re leading worship this Wednesday! We then got Starbucks and studied together before Embassy, which my friends Sammy, Courtney, and Sara also came to, and all loved. Sammy and Sara both want to come every week, and I loved and took away so much from the service as usual.
If you’re upset, tired or stressed, get a new perspective. Go out and see people. Pray. Smile. See the good. Keep going. That’s my motivation for the day.
You’ve got this, Sunshine.
